                        Dual Enrollment Opportunities
Dual enrollment gives high school students the opportunity to take approved courses at accredited institutions while completing high school graduation requirements.  Courses taken must provide opportunities not currently available to students at Apex High School.  This includes courses of an advanced and/or expanded nature.  High school graduation credit and grades will be awarded by Apex High School when the official transcript is received at Apex High School.  Quality points will be calculated as defined in the Wake County Public School System High School Program Planning Guide.  The student's official high school transcript will include the course and grade.

Apex High School participates in the following dual enrollment programs:
                        • NC Virtual Public Schools
                        • Huskins Program
                        • Learn & Earn
                        • Offsite College Courses

North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS)
NCVPS will provide students with expanded academic options by offering online courses and online services such as test preparation and credit recovery to North Carolina students. By virtue of their online course delivery, students from all areas of the state have access to courses and highly qualified teachers in subjects that may not be available at Apex High School. These "non-traditional" courses are designed for students who are self-directed, meaning that they are responsible to do their lessons and assignments without having a set schedule of class meetings. However, you can be assured that regardless of the online courses that NCVPS choose to provide, all NCVPS courses will meet the curriculum content standards that are set forth by the Dept. of Public Instruction and that all of their courses will meet the recognized quality assurance standards for e-learning courses. Students will be taught by NC-certified teachers and the grades that they earn in their NCVPS course will transfer to Apex High School and become part of their academic record.  Click here for the NCVPS Manual and Guidelines

To enroll in a NCVPS course, please download and complete the dual enrollment registration form.  Please bring the completed form to your school counselor to be registered in the on-line course.  Please remember that on-line courses are rigorous. Excellent time management skills are needed to be successful in an on-line course.

The NCVPS Information after registration handbook explains how to access your Virtual class after you registered, how contact is made with your Virtual teacher, and procedures for testing, textbooks, and labs.

                        The Huskins Program

Students that successfully complete the courses are awarded both high school and college credit.  Huskins provides enrichment opportunities for high school students by enrolling in courses not otherwise available to them. Classes are free for WCPSS students. Students enrolling in a Huskins course must provide their own transportation.  Huskins courses are taught at Wake Tech or at a WCPSS school.

                        Learn & Earn
Qualified students in participating high schools can take a variety of online college-credit courses at no cost to them or to their families. Students can earn high school and/or college credit for completed courses.  The course must be part of the student's comprehensive course of study.  The course must also provide opportunities not currently available to the student at the student's school.

These "non-traditional" courses are designed for students who are self-directed, meaning that they are responsible to do their lessons and assignments without having a set schedule of class meetings. More importantly, these classes maintain a level of academic quality comparable with so-called "traditional" courses which meet at a specified day and time in a specific location.
